Homeopathy is a method of alternative treatment that uses natural ingredients to treat illness. Homeopathic remedies are not the same as herbal remedies or home remedies. Herbal remedies only use plant-based products for treatment. Homeopathy uses a wide variety of natural ingredients which are not all plant-based products.

The principle of homeopathic remedies is called the Law of Similars. In homeopathy, illness is treated by giving the person a natural substance that would produce that person’s symptoms in a healthy person. As a simplified example, if the person is suffering from watery eyes, the person may be given onion since onion produces watery eyes in a healthy person. One way to sum this up is that like cures like.

A conjunctivitis homeopathic remedy is based on the specific symptoms that the person is experiencing. There is no single conjunctivitis homeopathic remedy, as the process for identifying the correct homeopathic remedy is individualized to treat that specific person’s symptoms.

If someone is suffering from redness of the eyes and the eyelids are stuck together in the morning, the recommended conjunctivitis homeopathic remedy for that person may be Argentum Nitricum, otherwise known as nitrate of silver. However, if someone has those symptoms plus itchiness of the eyes with or without tearing, the recommended homeopathic remedy for pink eye for that person would be sulphur. Sulphur may also be used for a homeopathic treatment for pink eye if there is burning and pain.

If the person is experiencing eye redness and swelling of the eyelid, the suggested homeopathic remedy for pinkeye would be Apis Mellifica. The common name for Apis Mellifica is honeybee. Apis Mellifica is sometimes used to treat sensitivity to light as well, which is a symptom of pinkeye.

Hepar sulphuris calcareum may be recommended as a homeopathic cure for pink eye that causes the lids to be crusty and stuck together in the morning with inflammation and a burning sensation. Natrum muriaticum might be used if there is pus, burning tears, and swollen eyelids. Natrum muriaticum is a kind of salt.

Determining the correct homeopathic treatment for pink eye does not rely solely on listing the symptoms. A homeopathic practitioner is likely to examine the entire person including the body and also the mind and mental state by talking to the person and asking questions. Many homeopathic remedies include personality traits and personal preferences of people who are thought to be helped most by the specific homeopathic remedy.
