Buteyko Asthma Management is a method of asthma control that focuses on using breathing to control asthma symptoms without the use of medication. The breathing exercises are thought to reduce the severity and frequency of asthma symptoms. The Buteyko Asthma Management program involves more than breathing exercises. The method teaches people to accurately assess their symptoms and use breathing exercises if the symptoms worsen. The asthma treatment method also provides information about asthma medication and how to use as little as possible to manage asthma symptoms.

The proponents of the Buteyko Asthma Management system claim that the method teaches people natural ways to overcome asthma symptoms. It is marketed as an effective method for people of all ages who have asthma. The developers of the method claim that Buteyko breathing is a safe method of asthma management for people who have all levels of severity of asthma.

The Buteyko Asthma Management program includes instructions for breathing exercises, information about asthma, and suggestions for improving asthma symptoms. Buteyko Asthma Management is taught over five consecutive days. Each session lasts about an hour and a half. The Buteyko Asthma Management treatment program is available for purchase online of through a licensed Buteyko practitioner.

Other breathing methods for asthma treatment have also been shown to reduce the need for asthma medication. These types of asthma treatments that focus on teaching people how to reduce asthma symptoms with breathing are called breathing therapies or breathing reeducation.
